Khan’s attack made national headlines and raised questions about security in Mumbai, one of India’s most populous cities and its financial capital.
Khan was stabbed six times and suffered multiple injuries, including to the back of his head, during the attack on his home in the upscale neighborhood.
Eliama Philip, a nurse who works at Khan’s home, told police last week that she first noticed the man’s shadow near the bathroom door late at night when she was in the baby’s room with the babysitter.
Ms Philip said a man appeared, holding a wooden object in one hand and a long blade in the other, and warned them not to make any noise. He demanded 10 million rupiah ($115,477; £94,511), she said.
A fight ensued during which Ms. Philip was injured. She also said that hearing the commotion, Khan and his wife rushed into the room and that the assailant stabbed the actor before fleeing.
This was reported by investigators on Friday detained – and later released – at least five more people for questioning in connection with the investigation.
Many of the men were detained because they resembled the attacker, who was caught on CCTV leaving the building.
