Veteran ABC News correspondent dies at 71

Veteran reporter Elizabeth Nissen has died, her family has announced.

He died at home on January 7, three days after his 71st birthday, according to his family.

Nissen had a successful career in broadcast journalism, appearing on ABC’s “World News Tonight” on the evening of Princess Diana’s death in 1997.

Nissen also worked for CNN, The Wall Street Journal and Newsweek, and was co-founder and executive producer of NBC Learn, the education division of NBC News, according to his obituary.

“A lifelong reader, student and teacher, Beth had a passion for communicating information in an easy-to-use manner,” her page read. “He trained his students to be critical thinkers, and helped teachers improve methods and techniques for more effective teaching.”

“He is remembered for his intelligence, his knowledge, his compassion and his friendship through his extensive personal correspondence,” his obituary read.

Nissen is survived by five of his six siblings, as well as nine nieces and nephews.
