Racist, stupid crap is not unexpected. We need a strong reaction from local and national democratic forces. To everything.

Co-presidents-elect Donald Trump and Elon Musk wasted no time a race to the political bottom following Wednesday’s devastating fires in Los Angeles, which have so far killed at least five people, injured many more and destroyed thousands of buildings — many, if not most, of them homes.
There is nothing surprising here.
On Wednesday’s Truth Social, a juvenile Trump blasted California Gov. Gavin Newsom as “Newsom” and accused him of “refusal to sign a water restoration declaration … that would have allowed millions of gallons of water from excessive rain and snowmelt from the north, flow daily into many parts of California, including areas currently burning.”
As local news sources and others quickly pointed out, this is not true. “State officials, along with Republican sources in the California Legislature, confirmed KCRA 3 on Wednesday there was never a “water restoration declaration” before Newsom, the local station reported. “Since Newsom has been in office, there has been no legislation that would do what Trump is describing.”
Co-president Musk praised Trump, as is often the case. He blamed the disappointing (for everyone – it’s tragic) response to the fire on the fire department’s DEI staff. “They prioritized DEI (the Principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) over saving lives and homes,” Musk said offhandedly. At the same time, he appeared to blame it on the Jews, signing a post by maniac Alex Jones, who accused a “globalist conspiracy to wage economic war and deindustrialize the United States before causing a global collapse.”
“True,” Musk replied.
As journalist Ned Reznikov observed, destroying “a city with a large Jewish population” would seem unreasonable, but who knows.
Critics on the right and left of liberal Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass have made many claims that she has cut the fire department’s budget, which she has not. how Politics reported. “In fact, the city’s fire budget is up more than $50 million year-over-year compared to the last budget cycle.”
But Politics included its report in an article under the headline that fire “threatens to end Karen Bass’ extended honeymoon,” quoting extensively from her critics.
Personally, I felt some sympathy for Bass, who was blindsided when she got off the plane from Ghana, where she was attending the inauguration of the new president at the request of President Biden. She flew in on Tuesday, she flew in on Wednesday. A Sky News reporter, Britain’s brash equivalent of Fox News’ Peter Doocy, harassed Bass as he got off the plane. He accused Bass of cutting the fire department’s budget Politics She reportedly increased it by $50 million and cited Musk’s criticism.
My first reaction was why does she have to respond to someone like Musk with all his racism? But Bass responded like the proverbial deer in headlights, a species also known as Democrats, often silent. Anyone who did not recognize the ideological leanings of Sky News might think that it has no adequate response to trolling. Democrats, unfortunately, need to engage in a fight with these low-IQ angry demagogues.
Bass regrouped at a press conference later. How Politics said, “This is going to be an attempt by all of us to come together, and we must resist any attempt to separate us,” she said, noting that she is on the phone and coordinating with officials “every hour” of her flights, both military and on commercial aircraft.
Newsom told Trump: “My message to the incoming administration — and I’m not here to play politics — please don’t play politics. There is a time and a place for that… The precious moments we have to evacuate, we don’t have time for this mishegos.”
Sorry Governor Newsom, Trump doesn’t have time for anything but mischegos. I hope President Biden is able to release as much FEMA money as possible before he leaves at noon on January 20th. And I hope the Democrats will get tougher on defense — and eventually on offense. The future of Los Angeles depends on it.

If we cannot rely on the vaunted system of checks and balances in this country to check or balance the power of an absurdist president, where else can we look?

Trump’s obsession with claiming Greenland and its people for the US is just a new version of the same old imperialist story.
