The Chargers are stepping up to help victims of the Los Angeles wildfires … donating $200,000 to support the community.
The organization announced its contribution to the relief fund on Wednesday … saying the money will go to several Los Angeles programs to help evacuees, first responders, animal rescues and cleanup crews.
“While we are currently experiencing unprecedented conditions that don’t seem like they can get any worse as we deal with multiple fires in our region, we are also witnessing our community at its best,” Chargers Chairman Dean Spanos said:
“The bravery, selflessness, bravery, sacrifice and compassion shown by first responders, Good Samaritans, friends, family and neighbors over the past 24 hours has been remarkable.”
In addition to the donation, the Chargers are asking fans to donate bottled water, blankets and clothing to evacuation centers.
“Our hearts go out to all those displaced by these fires, to the firefighters, police and frontline workers who are risking their lives to keep us safe, and to those among us who have stepped up to help each other in this incredible time of need. added Spanos.
The Chargers will play the Houston Texans in the NFL Wild Card playoff round on Saturday.
Several postseason events for fans in Los Angeles, including the Charge Up to Playoffs party at Sherman Oaks, were canceled due to the wildfires.
