Graham Potter has signed a contract confirming him as the new manager of West Ham United. Sky Sports News it was said
West Ham held a press conference at 9am on Thursday at the London Stadium.
Potter, who could take charge of Friday’s tough FA Cup third-round trip to Aston Villa, is set to return to management 20 months after he was sacked at Chelsea just seven months and 31 games into a five-year deal.
The time is right for Potter
Sky Sports News’ Kaveh Solhekol.
“He expected West Ham to do what they did and parted with Lopetegui.
“The timing is right for both of them. West Ham need a bit of stability now. It’s good because Graham Potter wants a project back.
“I think the owners and the fans will like his brand of football, the fact that he promotes youth, the fact that he likes a progressive style.
“But can he achieve that instant success? Five of their next seven Premier League games are London derbies, with a return to Stamford Bridge in the middle.”
“Sports director Steiden will be investigated.”
Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
“I think there’s going to be quite a lot of eyeballs on athletic director Tim Steidten.
“Jule Lopetegui was the unanimous choice of the board to take over as West Ham manager. If you talk to some of the fans, they felt a bit pressured by the appointment.
“They spent over £100m in the summer and he was central to that. By definition, with Lopetegui gone, you could almost call those first weeks a failure and the way they looked in the transfer window.
“Looking at this transfer window, I think it will be really interesting to see what kind of deals West Ham do and even more closely look at their sporting director.
