President Joe Biden is making a controversial decision with less than two months left in his presidency … announcing that he has pardoned his son Hunter.
The 46th POTUS broke the news moments ago… issuing an announcement saying she stood by as her son was “selectively and unfairly persecuted.”
Biden goes on to say that other people convicted of the same crimes, lying on the federal docket and paying their taxes late because of addiction, are usually given non-criminal convictions … but Hunter was treated differently.
JB says the allegations in his case only came to light after Republicans in Congress used them to attack him … and points out how the 2023 tax evasion deal collapsed; on the legal system to break the deal.
Joe says he believes in the legal system…but, he also believes it’s being weaponized by politicians in the case against his son, and he’s not going to sit by while Hunter goes to jail for it.
It’s worth noting that this rationale is similar to comments made by Donald Trump after he was convicted of 34 counts of falsifying business records back in May; comments for which Democrats criticized the president-elect.
He ends his message by writing: “I hope the American people will understand why the father and the president have to come to this decision.”
Hunter was convicted of three felony counts of lying on a federal firearms application back in June, all of which were lies about his drug use … and he faced up to 25 years in prison for the conviction.
Three months later, Hunter agreed to plead guilty to nine federal charges in September after failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019.
President Biden had promised months ago that he would not pardon his son Hunter … so this move came as a bit of a shock to many who have been following the case.
Of course, the main reason for pardoning Joe’s son is that his time as president is coming to an end… and with no more running for office, it can’t hurt him in future elections.
In both cases, Hunter was scheduled to be sentenced later this month.
