Wimbledon 2 – 2 Accrington

James Tilley’s lightning strike earned a point for AFC Wimbledon as they drew 2-2 at home to Accrington from two goals down.

Accrington waited to secure the three points as second-half goals from Nelson Khumbani and Dara Costello saw them take the lead heading into the final two minutes of stoppage time.

But Alistair Smith gave the home side a lifeline in the 89th minute before Tilley struck from 25 yards in stoppage time to draw his side level.

Wimbledon came closest to breaking the deadlock in a goalless first half when Matty Stevens saw his shot from the edge of the six-yard box go over the bar.

Stevens fired wide from five yards after an excellent trace from Josh Neufville as Jonny Jackson’s side edged closer and closer after the break.

Then, against the run of play, Khumbeni smashed the ball into the top right corner of the net from outside the box to give Stanley the lead in sensational style.

Costello could have made it 2-0 after taking the lead but his shot was well saved by Owen Goodman.

It came just seconds after the déjà vu incident, although Costello was hit again, but this time he made no mistake, curling the ball past Goodman to send the 77 Accrington supporters into ecstasy.

However, there would be a late twist in the tale when Wimbledon hit back in stunning fashion.

Smith flicked the ball into the bottom right corner with the outside of his boot to halve and set up a tense finish.

And, with seven minutes of stoppage time played and just seconds remaining, Tilley fired a shot from outside the box into the top left corner to rescue a point for the Dons.

Stanley defender Farrand Rawson was sent off at full-time for violent conduct to cap a fiery finish to the game.
