Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancourt believes he will face a lengthy ban for his comments about team-mate Heung-Min Son in the summer.

Bentancourt says he was informed of his possible punishment by his agent amid reports he will be banned for seven games by the FA, but this sanction has not been confirmed by the governing body or his club.

Speaking about the fulfillment of international duties with Uruguay, Bentancourt said. “My agent called me and said he was notified that it was a sanction.

'I love him.' |: Son defends Bentancur after FA charge

“Tottenham” captain Hyeong-Min Soh defends Bentancourt, accused of making offensive remarks against his teammate.

“So far, the club has not contacted me, I already more or less knew where it was going.

“Now the sanction is over, I want to be calm here with the national team, then we will see when it is time to return.”

The FA announced in September that it had charged Bentancourt with violating its rules on abuse and insults, as well as making references to racial or ethnic origin.

Bentancourt claimed it was a “very bad joke” after he said Son and his cousins ”all look the same” in an interview on Uruguayan national television.

Soh said they remained “brothers” and “nothing has changed”, after Bentancourt immediately apologized to him, admitting he had “made a mistake”.

The FA will update in due course on the Bentancur case.

Neither the FA nor Tottenham would comment when contacted Sky Sports News.

Uruguay face Colombia on Saturday and Brazil next Wednesday in two World Cup qualifiers.

Next week, on November 23, “Tottenham” will travel to “Manchester City”.
