Ukraine’s attempt to strike Moscow was also Ukraine’s biggest attack on the capital since the start of the war, and the region’s governor called it “massive.”
Most of the drones were shot down in Ramensky, Kolomensky and Domodedovo districts, officials said.
In Ramensky, southwest of Moscow, five people were injured and four houses caught fire due to falling debris, the Ministry of Defense of Russia reported. They added that 34 drones were shot down over the city.
In September, a woman died in Ramensky as a result of a drone attack. Last May, two drones were destroyed near the Kremlin in central Moscow, and there were also several attacks on the business district of Moscow City.
In Ukraine, at least two people were injured after a drone crashed in the Odesa region. Images showed flames rising from some buildings, as well as the damage that followed.
The Air Force of Ukraine said that 62 Iranian-made Russian drones were shot down and 67 were “lost”. Another 10 left Ukraine’s airspace, heading back towards Russia, as well as neighboring Belarus and Moldova, the report added.
More strikes were reported overnight on Monday, with Russia claiming to have destroyed 13 Ukrainian drones near the Kursk and Belgorod regions.
Meanwhile, two people were killed in Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine in what regional governor Vitaly Kim described as a Russian airstrike.
According to him, a 45-year-old woman who is in the hospital was also injured.
