Two nines and an impressive tournament from Luke Littler helped The BIGGER 180 raise more than £1m for Prostate Cancer UK at the Paddy Power World Darts Championship.
Paddy Power once again supported Prostate Cancer UK with their charity event at the World Darts Championship, held from 15 December to 3 January at Alexandra Palace in London and live on Sky Sports, and The BIGGER 180 was a huge success.
During the tournament, the bookmaker promised £1,000 for 180 shots, the highest achieved in 16 days of 907, the total shown live on Sky Sports.
Littler fired more 180s than any other player en route to his first world title, 76 in the entire tournament, 20 more than nearest challenger Michael van Gerwen.
Olympic cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy was an ambassador for The BIGGER 180, presenting Littler with the Sid Waddell Trophy, as well as the Ball Art Trophy, after Friday’s final.
A £60,000 bonus was awarded for every nine balls scored during the event, with both Christian Kist and Damon Heta hitting perfect leg to claim an extra £120,000 in donations, bringing £1,027,000 to Prostate Cancer UK.
Kist’s nine goals were the first in the 2023 final since Michael Smith’s famous ‘I can’t talk’ perfect leg, although the Dutchman lost his first round match 3-1 against Madars Razma.
Hetta’s perfect foot came after a 4-3 defeat by Luke Woodhouse, and both players earned themselves £60,000, as well as £60,000 for a lucky fan in the crowd.
During the tournament, more than 160,000 people used Prostate Cancer UK’s online risk checker, taking a 30-second questionnaire that can quickly show the risk of one in eight men developing prostate cancer, the most common cancer in men.
Funds raised from The BIGGER 180 campaign at the Paddy Power World Darts Championship have supported UK’s groundbreaking TRANSFORM prostate cancer screening trial, aiming to find the best way to diagnose the disease early and pave the way for a national screening programme.
