China’s Bai Yulu falls short of reaching the UK Championships
World women’s snooker champion Bai Yulu missed out on qualifying for the UK Championships after losing 6-1 to Jack Lisowski in the final qualifying round.
The 21-year-old Chinese beat three players to claim another victory to become the first woman to earn a place in the main draw of the Triple Crown tournament.
But his hopes were dashed as Lisowski, a British Championship semi-finalist two years ago, was rocked after five half-century breaks in Wednesday’s match.
Baie, who roared past Scott Donaldson to win 6-5 and seal his place at Judgment Day, had a chance to level the match at 1-1 after recovering from a 69-0 lead in the second frame, but missed the final blue.
Lisowski picked it up for a 4-0 lead.
After a break of 59, Baie claimed the fifth frame but Lisowski was not to be denied and finished with 85 and 66 runs to book his place at York next week.
