“Chelsea” 4-2 “Brighton”.

Chelsea extended their perfect start with a ninth from nine Women’s Super League games but their efforts were not made easy by a defiant Brighton who, despite losing 4-2, pushed the Champions all the way at a windy Kingsmeadow.

The victory for Sonia Bompastor’s side saw them stay at the top, 27 points clear of Manchester City and Arsenal, who both claimed victories.

The testing conditions made the claim to play at the back more interesting, with hairs on end for more reasons than one when Jelena Kankovic was caught on the edge of her own area leading to Sjoke Nusken’s opener.

Aggie Bever-Jones benefited from more daring play at the back when Sophie Bagaly was denied by the Lions to double Chelsea’s lead.Brighton hit back with Kankovic atoning for her former side’s sloppiness, but Johanna Wrighting Kanerid scored after the break to restore the two-goal cushion.

It was Hannah Hampton’s turn to make a mistake when she gifted Brighton a lifeline by scoring Kiko Seike, who went close to equalizing later on, but Chelsea secured the three points with a goal from a stoppage time corner.

Arsenal 4-0 Aston Villa.

Arsenal moved up to third in the Women’s Super League with a 4-0 win over Aston Villa at the Emirates to extend their winning streak to five.

There were early signs of Arsenal’s intent when Beth Meade’s opener was ruled out for offside.

Stina Blackstenius came off the bench to score Arsenal’s third goal before Rousseau made it a brace with an own goal.

“Manchester City” 4-0 “Leicester”.

Manchester City scored 4 unanswered own goals to secure victory against Leicester.

“Clinical” was the word at the Joey Stadium as Bunny Shaw scored twice and Jess Park grabbed the net as City managed just three efforts on target.

Mary Fowler volleyed City’s fourth of the afternoon to break the hearts of Leicester, who struggled to mount attacks of their own.

The win took Gareth Taylor’s side to 72, equaling former City boss Nick Cushing’s tally. The win also keeps City in second place on 22 points, five behind league leaders Chelsea.

“Tottenham” 2-1 “Everton”.

Beth England was the star for Spurs as they returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Everton at Brisbane Road.

A goal either side of the half-time whistle ensured his side moved up to sixth in the table, four points clear of the bottom four.

England opened the scoring in the first half before Sarah Holmgaard equalized but England restored their lead on the spot.

Everton, who secured their first win of the season with victory in the Merseyside derby, remain in 10th place, one point above both Crystal Palace and Leicester, who are in the bottom two.

“West Ham” 5-2 “Crystal Palace”.

Crystal Palace surrendered a two-goal first-half lead to keep them firmly at the bottom of the Championship as they were beaten 5-2 by West Ham at Barking & Dagenham.

Goals from Mill Gayle and India-Paige Riley gave the Eagles a two-goal lead after just 11 minutes.A few minutes later, Vivian Assei scored her 14th goal in the claret and blue.

Palace then had an open chance to restore their two-goal lead, but Eagles top scorer Annabelle Blanchard couldn’t keep her effort out of a wasted opportunity she would learn to cheat.

Goals from Seraina Puebel and Manuela Pavi completed the comeback before the break and two late strikes from Anouk Denton and Katrina Gorey secured all three points for the Hammers.West Ham’s win opens up a three-point gap in the bottom two.
