Danielle Gibson has joined Gujarat Giants but seven England players, including captain Heather Knight, top batsman Maya Bouchier and fast bowler Lauren Filer, went unsold in the 2025 Women’s Premier League auction.
Seamer Lauren Bell, batsmen Sophia Dunkley and Paige Scholfield and leg-spinner Sarah Glenn have also missed deals for the T20 competition in India.
Seamer Gibson was the only England player to sign, joining Gujarat Giants for £28,000.
Bouchier was overlooked on the day he marked his England Test debut with a superb 124-ball century against South Africa in Bloemfontein.
Twenty-nine players were vying for the maximum five overseas spots still available as the WPL’s eight franchises finalized their squads for next year’s tournament.
Deandra Dottin (West Indies), Nadine de Klerk (South Africa), Sarah Bryce (Scotland) and Alana King (Australia) took the places, who went to Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and UP Warriorz respectively.
England’s interest in the 2025 WPL will still be back, however Sophie Ecclestone (UP Warriors), Nat Sciver-Brunt (Mumbai Indians), Alice Capsey (Capitals of Delhi) and Kate Cross (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) retained beyond the 2024 season.
Danny Wyatt-Hodge Also joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru from UP Warriorz for £27,400 before the auction.
The dates for the 205 WPL have not yet been announced, but the tournament is likely to start by the end of January at the latest.
