New scientist. Science news and long-reading experienced journalists, science, technology, health and environmental developments and magazine developments.

On the ground, the earth moves. For more than thousands of years, the continent has changed and the entire surface of the planet resides again. The driver of all this is the plate tectonics: the surface of the Earth is divided into a dozen dishes that move horizontally. That’s how it started, however, has proven surprisingly challenging. Research has extracted dates 800 million years ago 4 trillion years agoIt is not after the planet after being formed. Now, the reason for this horrible disagreement is eventually revealed.

Today, the plaque tectonics is a global process. Everywhere, the plates are inevitably moving. At the top of the central ocean, the hot magma rises from the inside of the earth, forming a new crust and pushing the plates apart. When two collides, one is forced to underwide each other, destroying, in the process called subduction.

When things were very different when the earth was new, it was significantly hotter, which the rocks of the crust were smoother. But what was making the crust is not clear. Some researchers argue that there was a linked cover: the crust was barely moved, leaving the same rocks with hundreds of millions of millions. Others believe that the plate is vertically moving horizontally, as the denser rocks sank and were less compact. Somehow, the crust was divided into dishes and began to move horizontally. But when?

A decade ago, many researchers argued that the plate tectonics began between 3 trillion and 3.2 billion years ago, says Nadja in drabon Harvard University. Some evidence of evidence was great changes at the time, including the first evidence Minerals with only one form …
