A man has been detained for questioning in Altoona, Pennsylvania The assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City, law enforcement sources told ABC News.
The man has a gun similar to the one used in the apparent murder, sources said.
The NYPD is sending detectives to Altoona, sources said. Altoona is located in central Pennsylvania, about 100 miles east of Pittsburgh.
New video obtained by ABC News shows the killer waiting for Thompson outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel last week before the shooting. The video shows others walking by, and then when the masked gunman sees Thompson, he runs across and opens fire.

The video, which has not been seen publicly before, appears to support the police account that Thompson was targeted by gunfire during the Wednesday morning attack while others were wandering around.
Police have not established a motive, but say they have found no evidence that the killing had anything to do with Thompson’s private life.

The unidentified suspect appears to have planned his movements with precision, but law enforcement is “on the right track,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams said. New York ABC station WABC on sunday
“Like I said, the network is closing and closing,” Adams said. “It was a very difficult investigation. The person was completely disguised. The amount of detective work that was required to put the pieces together – we feel like we’re getting closer and closer.”

The FBI is assisting a nationwide manhunt, according to law enforcement sources.
NYPD detectives it arrived this weekend in Georgia Investigators said the suspect arrived in New York on Nov. 24 on a bus that originated in Atlanta, although it is unclear whether his travels began in Atlanta.
The masked gunman shot Thompson at 6:44 a.m. Wednesday outside the Hilton Midtown in New York City, where Thompson’s company was holding an investor conference. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch called the attack “brazen” and “targeted.”

After the shooting, the suspect fled on a bicycle through Central Park toward the Upper West Side. He then took a taxi to the Port Authority bus facility on 178th Street and boarded a bus from New York City, according to police.
NYPD officials released new images of the suspect in the back of a taxi this weekend, where he could be seen peering through the open slide between the seats. Another photo emerged showing the man walking through the window of a cabin.

In New York on Sunday, members of the New York Police Department’s dive team conducted an underwater search near Bethesda Fountain in Central Park.
Adams on Sunday declined to comment on the specific evidence, saying “every piece is important.” And he talked about the ongoing underwater search in general.
“It’s important everywhere. It’s important everywhere,” Adams said, adding a moment later: “It’s dark down there, you know.”

The suspect’s backpack… jacket and Monopoly money inside — was found nearby in Central Park. Police have yet to recover the distinctive gun used in the shooting.
“I don’t want to do anything that will signal that we’re going down his path, but we feel really good where we’re at,” Adams said Sunday. “Finding the backpack, taking pictures of the cabin, seeing some of the evidence we have, we feel very good about where we are.”
