Paddy Brennan believes Lossiemouth is well and truly the horse to beat in the Champions Hurdle after his Hutton Grace’s success over Teahupo last weekend.
Joining co-host Matt Chapman on episode 3 of Unbridled, Brennan revealed how she’d choose the pup owned by Rich Ritchie over stablemate and champion State Man if she were Paul Townend.
Matt and Paddy also discussed the strength of Hutton Grace’s form, plus whether Constitution Hill will ever return to his best.

“The Hatton’s Grace was something of a race,” Paddy said. “There were tactics from the start and Jordan Gainford’s only job (at Maxxum) was to keep Paul Townend (at Lossiemouth) honest.
“I thought Paul Townend was incredible because he just played the silent man. He didn’t react and his mind never left the problem.
“The only mistake Jordan Gainford made was looking around to see where Paul was. If you’re going to kiss someone’s girlfriend, don’t look for a boyfriend.
“Since then, Lossiemouth have been so impressive. one of the best pirates I’ve seen in a long time. He was great.”
Matt didn’t want to get too carried away with his performance, especially when Gordon Elliott’s other runner, Beacon Edge, finished just nine lengths third.
“The general gist of it is that Lossiemouth got away from Teahupoo, which is good, but everyone forgets that Beacon Edge was only five lengths behind Teahupoo,” Matt said.
“It suggests that Teahupu ran well below form and that Gordon Elliott’s team completely messed up the tactics and didn’t go fast enough.
“The math is in. Teahupoo is rated at 164 and Beacon Edge at 144 – 20 pounds less.
“I’m fully aware that Lossiemouth looked a monster, and he can be a monster, but because he got past Teahupu, it doesn’t become a monster when Beacon Edge is only five lengths behind.”
If Constitution Hill, State Man, Sir Gino and Lossiemouth go head-to-head in the Champion Hurdle, who wins?
Paddy…
“Lossymouth. I’d ride Lossymouth over the State Man and not even have to think about it. I don’t think any horse could give him 7lbs.”
“It’s worrying times for Constitution Hill. I just can’t see him getting back to his prime. I think it’s impossible to beat something like Lossiemouth as it is today.
Matt…
“If Constitution Hill comes back, none of these have the slightest chance of ever seeing him, let alone getting close to him. If he comes back to his prime.”
