From the pressure on Mike McDaniel and Tua Tagovailoa in Miami to the recent injury to Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs; Sky Sports NFL presenter Neil Reynolds has his final words on Week 15 of the season…
Week 15 of the NFL featured plenty of games with playoff implications, and while nothing definitive has changed in terms of the leading pack, I feel like there’s been a bit of a power shift.
Here’s where we start this week…
Allen is “miles” ahead in the MVP race
The Buffalo Bills look awfully good in their win over the Detroit Lions, especially quarterback Josh Allen. He reminded me of years of standing on the sidelines in various youth sports and seeing the other team with that kid who seemed to be faster than everyone else. growing.
He was bigger, stronger, faster. It shouldn’t happen at the NFL level, but it does in the form of Josh Allen, who looked absolutely dominant in a 48-42 win last week yards and six touchdowns against the Los Angeles Rams and followed that up against the Lions with 362 passing yards and two touchdowns while rushing for two more unit
There is nothing he can do at the moment. He looks close to unstoppable, and for me, having been a longtime Lamar Jackson MVP supporter this year, I think Allen has the lead in that race by a mile right now.
Injury concerns for Lions
The Lions looked terrific on offense once again, with Jared Goff throwing for 494 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions.
Going into the game against Buffalo, the Lions had 21 players on injured reserve, and they now lose defensive tackle Aleem McNeal to a season-ending knee injury and running back David Montgomery to a season-ending knee injury.
Injuries are piling up, which is really disappointing because this was shaping up to be a magical season. They’re going to have to dig really deep now and rely on their stars on offense to get them over the line.
Carson Wentz time in Kansas City?
The Kansas City Chiefs remain the top team in the AFC after a 21-7 win over the Cleveland Browns to move to 13-1, but their lack of defense for Patrick Mahomes reared its ugly head once again.
Mahomes was sidelined with a nasty-looking ankle injury while trying to run for a first down. He has a high ankle, meaning he’s in a race against time to be fit for the tough schedule ahead. They play Houston on Saturday against the Texans and then four days later against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day.
I think we might be in for a Carson Wentz holiday release.
Baker’s Bucs put the NFL on alert
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may demand more of our attention. They scored 30 unanswered points in a 40-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
It was their fourth straight win, they lead the NFC South title race and if they win that division it will be the fourth year in a row.
It starts with their offense. Baker Mayfield caught four passes, Mike Evans had more than 150 receiving yards and two touchdowns, they ran the football 39 times for 223 yards. They haven’t really been tested in their previous three wins against the New York Giants, Carolina Panthers and Las Vegas Raiders, but NFL , against the No. 1 scoring defense, the Bucs passed their test admirably.
They will be a playoff team and a tough team when they get there.
The Eagles are finding a new way to win
Whether it was because of AJ Brown’s comments or not, the Philadelphia Eagles changed their approach a bit in Week 15. They ran the football 473 times that weekend, the most in the NFL, while attempting just 328. passing: the least in the league.
Saquon Barkley may have gotten a little hit on Sunday, so he only had 65 rushing yards, and they won otherwise with AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith both surpassing 100 yards and a touchdown each.
The Eagles are now 12-2 and look like a complete team. They are going to push the Lions hard for that top seed in the NFC.
Player of the Week – Josh Allen, QB, Buffalo Bills
My Player of the Week is, of course, Josh Allen of the Bills. That team has now scored at least 30 points in eight straight games, the longest streak in NFL history.
Allen has 14 offensive snaps in Buffalo’s last three games, scoring, running and catching an onside kick.He does it all and was great on Sunday.
Game of the week. ANY game by Josh Allen
You could have had any of Josh Allen’s plays. On Buffalo’s first drive, he rolls to his right, hits and throws a pass down the field to Ty Johnson. Halfway through the first quarter, he rolls to his left and hits James Cook.
And another one, my favorite, where he rolls right and looks to Keon Coleman, the quarterback picks up the deep throw, so Josh Allen throws it even deeper and Coleman goes and follows the ball. Incredible pass that featured a man right in Josh Allen’s face when he landed flat on his back.It was just another example of the wow throws he makes over and over again.
Coach of the Week – Sean Payton, Denver Broncos
It wasn’t a great start for Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos. They were certainly helped by Jonathan Taylor’s ridiculous fumble at the goal line when he started celebrating before crossing the goal line, but the Broncos stuck with it.
Bo Knicks overcame some interceptions, defense played well and they have now won four straight. We keep wondering if they will come from behind or slip in the AFC playoff race, all they keep doing , is to win and improve their seed in that conference. They’re ahead of schedule, but that’s what Sean Payton does. He’s rough around the edges. especially with the media and he can rub players the wrong way but all he knows is winning.
On my radar…
What the Miami Dolphins do to turn things around in the offseason is on my radar. They lost another big game against a quality opponent on the big stage as they fell 20-12 against the Houston Texans, who clinched the AFC South.
It was a win-win game for the Dolphins, but Tua Tagovailoa had a meltdown, throwing three interceptions, and Mike McDaniel seemed to have no answer for what DeMeco Ryans was throwing at him and his team. what they want, how they want to finish stronger and win big games, but they haven’t done it time and time again when lead Mike McDaniel and They are Tuan.
Are they bringing in a certain type of player? Is there going to be pressure on the head coach and quarterback? But something has to change in Miami that what they’ve delivered in recent years isn’t good enough to be considered an NFL contender.
