President Donald Trump did not put his hand on the Bible while taking the oath of office its inauguration on monday
First Lady Melania Trump stood next to the President holding both Bibles, but the 47th President of the United States did not even raise his right hand as Chief Justice John Roberts took the oath of office.

There is no legal requirement for the president to put his hand on the Bible. VI of the US Constitution. According to Article, Clause 3, which contains the oaths of office, members of Congress, members of state legislatures, and executive and judicial officers throughout the country are bound “by oath or affirmation” to uphold the Constitution.
“But,” he continues, “no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification for any office or public trust in the United States.”
