President-elect Donald Trump announced that he had created a new role for his administration, the White House Artificial Intelligence and Crypto Czar.
The role will be played by tech entrepreneur and podcaster David Sacks.
Sacks will “lead the Administration’s policy on Artificial Intelligence and Cryptocurrencies, two areas critical to the future of American competitiveness. David will focus on making America a clear global leader in both areas,” Trump said in his announcement.
“He will protect freedom online, and move us away from Big Tech bias and censorship. He will craft a legal framework so the Crypto industry can have the clarity it has been asking for and thrive in the US,” Trump continued.
“David will also chair the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology,” the president-elect said.
Sacks is a longtime Silicon Valley ally of Elon Musk and invested in SpaceX. They worked together at PayPal, a company Sacks co-founded and later became COO. During that time, Musk served as CEO until 2000, when Confinity rebranded and became PayPal.
Sacks held major fundraisers for the Trump-Vance ticket, including one at Trump’s home in San Francisco, California, in June.
Trump interviewed Sacks on the “All In” podcast earlier this year, in which he advocated “automatically” giving it to non-US citizens when they graduate from college, not just people who pass the exam process.
“(What) I want to do, and what I’m going to do, is you’re a graduate of a university, I think, automatically, as part of your diploma, you should get a green card to be able to be in this country. universities as well,” Trump said in the episode.
In response to Trump one of the hosts, Jason Calacanis, asked Trump if it would “give us more ability to import the best and brightest from around the world into America.”
