Cowboys fans hoping for a new head coach may have to wait a little longer… Troy Aikman tells TMZ Sports he believes his former team will stick around Mike McCarthy in 2025.
The current Dallas manager’s contract expires after this season … and after his team posted a 5-8 record this year, there are plenty of people in Texas who want a new face in the Cowboys’ lineup.
But when we caught up with Aikman on Wednesday, he told us he doesn’t believe Mike is going anywhere.
“My gut tells me right now he’s going to come back,” the Hall of Famer said. “That’s a guess on my part, but that’s how I feel right now.”
Apparently, Aikman believed that would be the right move, too, saying that most of Dallas’ 2024 releases will NOT “fall to Mike McCarthy’s doorstep.”
Aikman said “confusing” offseason roster decisions contributed to the disappointing year, as did injuries … none of which McCarthy could control.
“Mike McCarthy is a hell of a football coach,” Aikman said, “and he’ll get other opportunities if it’s not actually here in Dallas.”
McCarthy has four more games left to prove Aikman right, but they won’t be gimmicks by any means … with only the final three against Tampa Bay, Philadelphia and Washington.
