The social media platform TikTok was unavailable for some users on Saturday afternoon, ahead of the US ban, with a pop-up message saying: “Sorry, TikTok is currently unavailable.”
“A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, this means you can’t use TikTok for now. We are happy that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to restore TikTok. Please stay tuned,” the alert said.

Of the 170 million users in the United States, it was not immediately clear how many were still able to use the platform Saturday night.
The Supreme Court on Friday upheld a law set to ban TikTok unless the platform sever ties with China-based parent company ByteDance by Sunday.
The Biden administration said it would not enforce the ban before Donald Trump took office on Monday, but the social media company said it needed more “definitive” assurances from the federal government to stay online.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called TikTok’s request “a prediction” early Saturday.
“We see no reason for TikTok or other companies to take action before the Trump administration takes office in the next few days,” Jean-Pierre said.
Trump told ABC News in an interview Saturday it is likely TikTok to be granted a 90-day extension to avoid a ban in the United States.
As of Saturday night, the app was also unavailable for new users to download to their devices.
Google and Apple did not respond to ABC News’ repeated requests for comment.
