LONDON — South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared “emergency martial law” in a televised address on Tuesday, Yonhap news agency reported.
Yoon said the measure was necessary because of the actions of the country’s opposition, which has been accused of controlling parliament, sympathizing with North Korea and stalling the government.
“I declare martial law to eradicate the brazen anti-state forces in North Korea that are plundering our people’s freedom and happiness, and to protect the free constitutional order,” Yoon was quoted as saying by ABC News KBS editorial partner.
