The co-writer of ’80s classic ‘Perfect’ ‘Shock Me’ isn’t too thrilled to have his song in the spotlight. Jimmy Fallonviral sketch of Jamie Lee Curtis – telling TMZ he didn’t see any money for it.
Bruce Roberts tells TMZ that she was upset that NBC didn’t clear the use of her song, and when she reached out to ask about it, she claims they hit her with the excuse “it’s a parody,” meaning that no license fee is required.
He calls BS though, noting that the “Tonight Show” bit may have been a parody, but the song was the real deal in the movie.
Bruce didn’t hold back, telling us: “They mostly said, ‘hit,’ which made me even more angry.”
He tells us it’s not about the money, it’s about the principle. He’s tired of writers cracking up when songs don’t clear, and he’s not having it.
Bruce and Sony Pictures, which owns the master, have been hounding NBC for answers for weeks … but so far they’ve been left to read.
Bruce doesn’t hold a grudge against Fallon, saying he knows him personally and doubts he even knows about the whole mess. He thinks Jimmy is just busy and this is what his crew usually does.
Bottom line, he tells us he’s not a fan of lawsuits and hopes to get this all settled before it gets to that.
We’ve reached out to NBC…no word back yet.
