Roy Keane has said that the Premier League title race will be over for Manchester City if they lose to Liverpool next weekend.
Arne Slott’s side opened up an eight-point gap on last season’s champions at the top of the table when the two heavyweights of English football meet at Anfield. Live on Sky SportsSunday, December 1.
City suffered a fifth successive defeat when they thrashed Tottenham 4-0 at home on Saturday, the longest losing streak of Pep Guardiola’s managerial career, and will now play the league leaders in a desperate bid to keep their title hopes alive.
“Eight points up. I bet they can’t believe it,” Keane said after Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Southampton. Super Sunday.
“Liverpool have played brilliantly and have every chance of winning this title. If they are at their best, with the fans behind them and beat City, what a statement it will be.
“It will be over for them (City) next week if they lose to Liverpool.”
“It’s a big test to fight those expectations. Can City come back next week?
Redknapp. A dream start for Slot
Jamie Redknapp has reiterated his positives about Liverpool’s start under Slott as they continue to benefit from the struggles of both City and Arsenal.
“It was the start of a dream for them,” Redknapp continued Sky Sports. Manchester City are struggling and Arsenal have injuries, it’s perfect for them right now.
“Who knows, Liverpool might have to suffer for a while. For now, that’s where you want to be. Great position for Christmas, everyone keep going
“It’s been a blockbuster in the Premier League for the last few years, especially at Anfield. In many cases, City haven’t got the result they wanted. This will be a change, because Liverpool will be the favourites, and that brings more expectations pressure. They can be more patient.”
Salah: We want to extend the lead
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah enjoyed the win over Saints as he scored twice but is well aware of the threat City pose ahead of their clash next weekend.
“Hopefully we will continue in that direction. We have a game against them so hopefully we will win it and go 11 points ahead,” said Salah.
“Manchester City is Manchester City. They’ve had a bad time, but they’ve got a great manager and great players. I hope we can beat them.”
