Peter Thomas joins a growing list of reality stars facing prison terms … we’ve learned that the Real Housewives of Atlanta alum has been sentenced to a year and a half in prison.
A spokesperson for the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina tells TMZ … the Bravo personality who appeared on ‘RHOA’ alongside his then-wife. Cynthia Baileywas sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to tax evasion.
Following this sentence, Peter will serve 2 years of supervised release.Peter has also been ordered to pay $2.5 million in restitution to the IRS.
Peter pleaded guilty to failing to pay trust fund taxes this summer … after he was accused of repeatedly evading the IRS between 2017 and 2023; a few from his businesses.
The restaurateur allegedly owes the IRS nearly $650,000 in trust fund taxes from his employees’ wages in Charlotte, North Carolina. However, this is just a glimpse of Peter’s tax woes… he’s been sued over 6 years from his businesses in various states. more than $2.5 million in nonpayment of employment taxes.
Before the sentencing, Peter posted a video update on Instagram in which he advised young business owners to “please learn from (his) mistake.”
In his message, he said he was willing to “face the music” to “consistently keep taxes for business over 10 years.”
As he continued, Peter admitted he thought he could fix the situation by going into a payment plan … but learned the hard way that “it doesn’t work that way.”
He added … “I plead guilty and I have to sit down for a while.”
