The Premier League has confirmed the dates of the 2025/26 season.
The current 2024/25 season ends on Sunday, May 25, but the league has revealed early details of the upcoming campaign, which will be followed by the 2026 World Cup.
When does the 2024/25 Premier League season start?
The 2025/26 Premier League season will begin on the weekend of August 16/17, 2025.
That start date is 83 days after the end of the 2024/25 season, which the Premier League says ensures “maximum player rest”.
The 2025/26 season will consist of 33 weekend matches and five midweek matches.
The Premier League said the schedule “continues to provide more rest for players during the festive game period”.
No two rounds will be played within 60 hours of each other and there will be no game on Christmas Eve.
When does the Premier League season end?
The last round of the Premier League will take place on May 24, 2026.

When does the 2026 World Cup start?
The 2026 World Championships, which will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico, will begin on Thursday, June 11, in Mexico City 2026.
The final will be held in New Jersey on Sunday, July 19.
What about the 2025 Club World Cup?
The new format of the FIFA Club World Cup begins next summer, featuring two Premier League teams and Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.
Advanced 2025 Club World Cup will take place over 29 days in the US next summer. The tournament starts on June 15, the final on July 13.
Europe has 12 clubs in the 32-team competition and places are allocated based on performances in the Champions League over the four seasons from 2020/21 to this season, meaning Chelsea and Manchester City will be the Premier League’s representatives.
When will the 2025/26 Premier League matches finish?
The game’s release date has yet to be confirmed.
In previous seasons, the opening game took place on Friday, but the final telecast schedule and selections will be announced in due course.
