Plymouth Argyle have announced Miron Muslic as the club’s new head coach on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
Muslik was most recently the manager of Cercle Brugge, where he had an impressive record, winning 43 of his 101 games in charge as he took the Belgian side from a lowly domestic position to European football.
Plymouth are bottom of the Sky Bet Championship table with 20 points from 25 games and the Austrian-Bosnian has arrived as Wayne Rooney’s successor.
The 42-year-old had further managerial experience at Austrian sides Ried and Floridsdorfer AC.
Muslik beat off competition from several high profile candidates to become Argyle’s number one choice for the board and chairman Simon Hallett has expressed his delight at bringing him to the club.
He said: “Miro had a clear vision of how he wanted to take Argyle forward and showed a depth of tactical awareness that showed exactly how he wanted the team to set up and play.
“He comes with glowing reviews of his time at Cercle Brugge, where he took a team from the lower leagues into European football, which is no mean feat.
“I would like to welcome him to the club and look forward to him making an immediate impact on the team.”
Muslik will feature alongside Hallett in the Emirates FA Cup clash against Brentford on Saturday.
First-team coach Kevin Nancekivell will form part of Muslich’s recovery team when his staff will be confirmed.
Rooney left Plymouth Argyle after a nine-game winless run from the bottom of the Sky Bet Championship club on New Year’s Eve.
Signed on a three-year deal in May, Rooney left Plymouth after just seven months with the club in four points.
His last game in charge came on 29 December when Argyle beat Oxford 2–0.
