No one on the ground was injured in the crash and the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate further, officials said.

In a statement posted on Facebook Sunday afternoon, the Savannah Union Fire Department said they received a call about the downed plane at approximately 9:46 p.m.

The pilot and passenger were trapped in the plane when firefighters arrived, officials said.

Responding firefighters “worked with great haste to extricate the patients so they could be transported to a hospital,” according to the statement.

Officials said the area will be closed to investigate and remove the plane.
