Luigi MangionePerson of interest in fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompsonwas escorted to court on Monday by a police escort.
The 26-year-old Maryland man, who was arrested earlier Monday in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in connection with the New York murder, arrived at the Blair County Courthouse in Paseo, Pa., where he was scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing.
Watch video … Mangione, who was taken into custody in handcuffs, appeared stone-faced as he was helped out of the back of a police SUV.The person of interest wore a dark long-sleeved shirt and jeans as he made his way to court … none without uttering a word.
Before appearing at the courthouse, Mangione struck a pose … steely-eyed into the camera while wearing several layers of dark clothing, including a black choker.
As TMZ previously reported, Mangione was took 5 days after Thompson’s appearance shoot and kill Outside the New York Hilton Midtown in Manhattan flew by bike after the shooting, later fleeing New York via the Port Authority Bus Center.
Later though images of the suspect An employee at a McDonald’s in Altoona recognized Mangione and contacted police, authorities said.
At a press conference on Monday, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Table said A fake passport, firearmsMangione was found wearing a stun gun and clothing matching the suspect’s, and was allegedly carrying a 2-page handwritten document “criticizing” the health care industry, according to authorities.
In documents filed with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, police shed some light on Monday’s arrest. police found Mangione sitting at a McDonald’s table, looking at a silver laptop and a backpack at his feet, police said. He was wearing a blue surgical mask. One of the officers asked him to reveal his face, which he did. When asked for identification, Mangione allegedly showed the officers a fake New Jersey ID.
When asked if he had been to New York recently, “the male became silent and began to shake.”
When he was taken to the Altoona Police Department, officers searched his backpack … and found a “black 3D-printed handgun and a black silencer,” also 3D-printed, according to the arrest warrant.
Police said the gun held a Glock magazine with six full metal-jacketed 9mm cartridges and a loose bore.
Mangione was charged with 5 counts. Firearms cannot be carried without a license. Breach of records or identification; Instruments of crime; and impersonating law enforcement officers.He has not been charged in the New York murder.
