Pep Guardiola is confident Manchester City will bounce back after a run of one win in 13 games turned their season into an upheaval.
City: will be hoping to rekindle their spark against Leicester on Sunday, live on Sky Sports, after another disappointing result for the ailing champions at home to Everton on Boxing Day.
They at least avoided a 10th defeat in 13 games in all competitions, but the two points dropped left them 14 behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand.
With just one win since October, it was a sharp drop for Guardiola’s previously winningest side.
Guardiola said: “I have been since I came to my career as a football player, as a manager, I think that each of us in our work wants to please the people, wants to do our job well. It is undeniable. It is not a question, I would say.
“So it’s easy to understand. The biggest test when things go wrong. The biggest test I’ve done.
“We’ll be back, and that’s what happened. But it makes me remember how good the past was. That’s the truth.
“Now I probably understand what we’ve done because sometimes you have injuries and how many years we’ve been so incredibly, incredibly consistent, you know?
“And the main, main reason is having seven or eight important injured players, and every three days is more difficult.
“But I see the team, the spirit, the way yesterday’s (Wednesday) practice is, how focused they are in what we’re trying to practice, like, you know, try to do it.”
Manuel Acanji too remains confident of City The corner will be turned before the trip to relegation-threatened Leicester.
The Swiss football player said: “We have to keep working and the next chance is in a few days. We can’t do anything else at this point. We’re trying everything.
“We’ve had a lot of injuries so it’s not easy at the moment, but even now we’ll find a way and come out of it and luck will be on our side again.”
Jones knows the forecast. There is no rest for Pep
Sky Sports betting expert Lewis Jones.
How bad must Leicester be if Man City are 1/3 to win with Sky Bet despite just one win in their last 13 games?
In addition, since the beginning of November, Guardiola’s men have conceded 26 goals in all competitions. in that time, the only team in Europe’s top five leagues to have conceded more is FC Heidenheim 1846 (28).
It’s amazing.
However, punters are still happy to back them to win football matches, seemingly at heavy odds.
I can leave them alone, even if Leicester have had the most shots, shots on goal and most goals conceded since December 3rd, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first game in charge.
He had little influence. in fact, it might become easier to score against them.
In terms of betting though, you just have to keep betting against City’s defense keeping a clean sheet and Leicester have scored in all but one of their 10 home matches this season. Both teams to score and over 2.5 to score should be 4/5 on Sky Bet.
