Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs had a rough start on Sunday as the star quarterback suffered an ankle injury in the Super Bowl champions’ 21-7 win over the Cleveland Browns.
Mahomes was left limping after taking a hit from multiple Browns defenders midway through the fourth quarter, getting help off the field when Carson Wentz saw the play at quarterback.
“I was trying to make a play,” Mahomes said.
“Something happens in football. Try to bounce back, but obviously it hurt a bit. Now we’ll go through rehab and try to be ready for next week.
“Usually the next day, I feel like I could have finished the game. But I thought it was a smart decision. He played a lot of football.”
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday night that X-rays on the ankle came back negative and Mahomes is now considered week-to-week.
“Patrick, his right ankle is injured. It’s not broken, but it’s sore,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. on the way here.”
Mahomes finished the game 19-of-38 for 159 yards and two touchdowns to Noah Gray and JuJu Smith-Schuster as the Chiefs improved to 13-1.
Next weekend, the defending champions face the Houston Texans in Arrowhead before visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day.
