Singer Brenton WoodTMZ made famous by his 1967 hit “The Oogum Boogum Song,” has died.
Wood’s manager and assistant, Manny Gallegosconfirmed the news to TMZ, revealing that he died today at his home in Moreno Valley, California, surrounded by friends and family.
As of now, the cause of his death has not been revealed.
He was born Alfred Jesse Smithhe adopted the stage name Brenton Wood and carved out a career for himself in the soul scene with his unique blend of R&B and pop.
He scored a number of hits in the ’60s and ’70s, including the popular tunes “Gimme Little Sign” and “Baby You Got It.”
Brenton was 83 years old.
