After spending last season on loan at his former club Brentford, Maupay left in search of another outlet ahead of the 2024/25 season and was eventually signed by former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, joining him at Marseille in Ligue 1.

Having secured a move to France, Maupei once again courted controversy by posting a scene on social media from the film Shawshank Redemption, famous for depicting the protagonist’s long struggle for freedom.

Sky Sports News have contacted Everton for a comment on the situation with their striker.

Analysis: Forest is who Everton want to be.

Sky Sports’ Sam Blitz.

When Everton and Nottingham Forest met in April this year, just two points separated the sides.

Once six points adrift in the Premier League, one team is now adrift. In fact, Nottingham Forest have become the team Everton want to be and have wanted to be for some time.

Forest are clinical in both boxes and have the squad depth to produce what Nuno Espirito Santo wants from his squad.

The difference between the two was best summed up in the 74th minute of this game when Nuno brought on Chris Wood and Morgan Gibbs-White, knowing full well that the result was sealed the same minute Beto was brought on by Dyche as Everton tested themselves different combination in front.

With seven of their last nine matches empty-net, Dyche is still working out his formula for results.

There is also a difference at the back. Everton have seen years of ownership turmoil, which recently ended with the takeover of the Friedkin Group, while Forest have finally had stability under Evangelos Marinakis. The difference between the two clubs could not be greater.
