Community residents tell TMZ … the big cat was hanging from a tree Wednesday morning, just a few houses down from Chris’ pad, randomly weaving through the tree’s branches before being relieved within seconds.
A mountain lion native to the nearby Santa Monica Mountains can reach speeds of up to 50 mph, and this one wasn’t shy about showing off.After a quick walk around a neighbor’s lawn, we were told it had jumped a tree.
A neighborhood source tells TMZ that Hidden Hills residents are in a panic after the discovery, especially since children and pets are everywhere.
We’re told people have been calling Fish and Wildlife’s hotline, only to be told the agency is acting because of state policy that says… since it’s technically a mountain lion’s natural habitat, they won’t tranquilize or remove it.
As a precaution, the neighborhood’s Round Meadow Elementary School was temporarily locked down Wednesday morning until the big cat was out of sight.
It’s unclear where the mountain lion is currently hiding, but it’s safe to say everyone in the area is keeping their eyes closed and doors locked.
For its part, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife tells us it’s not unusual for mountain lions to show up near residential areas, especially around wildlife habitat.
A spokesman for the agency confirmed … as a conservation and natural resource management agency, it avoids interfering with wildlife movements whenever possible.
The spokesperson added that there are rare circumstances in which CDFW can relocate a mountain lion to a suitable nearby habitat, and while all incidents are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, the best solution is for the animal to leave on its own.
