‘Moana 2’ Beats ‘Wicked’ In Massive Thanksgiving Weekend Box Office Win

moana 2 and malicious success

“Moana 2” showed just how far it’ll go over Thanksgiving weekend … by turning Wicked into a biggie at the box office.

Disney’s new film debuted to a whopping $221 million domestically over the 5-day weekend… shattering previous Thanksgiving weekend box office records.

Foreign moviegoers also fled to theaters to see what the Moana sequel has in store for a projected $165.3 million international haul.

Do some quick math, and that’s $386.3 million for the long weekend projected total for the Mouse House… pretty, pretty good.

While ‘Moana 2’ may have topped ‘Wicked’, the ‘Wizard of Oz’ prequel is still holding its own, to say the least.’ the film has $359.3 million worldwide.

It’s worth noting that Wicked debuted a week before Moana 2, so there’s a significant difference between the two.

Regardless of who comes out on top, Thanksgiving weekend was an incredible win for movie theaters around the world… one that was sorely needed as the industry has been hit hard by the SAG strike and the global pandemic.

And remember, Universal will continue to reap the benefits of Wicked next year when the second installment comes out… and at this rate, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a Moana 3.
