Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has told reporter Henry Winter that he is “ready for a new challenge” amid reports of the club’s owners INEOS planning to cash in on the Carrington graduate.
Rashford, 27, was left out of Ruben Amorim’s squad for the Manchester derby at the weekend, where United won 2-1 in dramatic fashion with the manager in tow. coming into question his professionalism in training.
“For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” said Rashford, who has been at the club for nearly 20 years. Winter said on Tuesday during a visit to his former elementary school.
“When I leave, there won’t be any hard feelings.” If I know the situation is already bad, I won’t make it worse.
“I’ve seen other players leave before and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave, I will make a statement and it will be from me.”
“Getting out of the derby is disappointing but it happened, we won the game so let’s move on.
“It’s frustrating, but I’m also one who can handle failure. What am I going to do about it? Or do my best when I’m available.”
Sky Sports News first reported by Rashfordwho has scored seven goals in 24 appearances this season, clashed with INEOS management and their ‘clean culture’ approach earlier this year after falling foul of former manager Erik ten Haag for the third time in January.
Amorim, Ten Hag’s replacement, was also unimpressed with Rashford’s application on the pitch and his general demeanor, which led to him being left out of the squad on Sunday.
“It’s important to say it wasn’t a disciplinary thing,” the manager confirmed when asked why Rashford was absent.
“What’s important to me is the performance in training, the performance in the game, the way I dress, the way I eat, the way I interact with my teammates and motivate my teammates.”
Rashford’s professionalism has also been questioned Sky Sports’ Gary Neville recently after he flew to the US during the recent international break and was photographed watching an NBA game in New York.
The striker admits he feels “misunderstood” and has “no regrets” over the past nine years, while he also harbors hopes of returning to England ahead of the 2026 World Cup under new manager Thomas Tuchel.
“Amorim’s comments indicate a parting of the ways”
Football journalist Henry Winter.
“Ruben Amorim’s comments after the derby were quite indicative of the parting of the ways. Obviously it’s going to be emotional because Marcus Rashford is a senior, he’s got 60 caps for England. It’s going to be a big story.
“Sometimes separation brings sweet grief, but sometimes grief is necessary. I’m sure there will be a market, whether it’s in Spain or Italy, because he’s at that magical age for footballers where he still retains his athleticism but has so much thing: experience.
“Amorim wants to play a specific system and Rashford is adaptable, but reading the headlines today, it doesn’t seem like Rashford is in those plans.”
“Amorim is trying to get out of Rashford”
Sky Sports News’ Melissa Reddy:
In the absence of a market for Rashford, Amorim is trying different methods to get a tune out of him. “Should we keep doing the same thing or something else?”
Being left out of the squad against Manchester City has so far had the desired effect of raising the standards of the player’s training and attitude.
Rashford took to social media to share a photo of United celebrating following Amad’s sensational winner, saying: ‘Yessssssssss! Love it guys.” It was seen as a nod to Amorim’s comment that everything, including “involvement with teammates,” will be taken into account when he chooses his matchday lineup.
Butter. Rashford’s departure ‘inevitable’
Sky Sports’ Jamie Carragher.
“A lot of managers who come in want to send a message to the team about the standards of the football club. In some ways it seems like a bigger decision than it is.
“I mean, Marcus Rashford is in the best lineup. We’re not talking about a superstar here. I think we’re talking too much about Marcus Rashford, if I’m being completely honest.
“He’s a good player, he’s not a great player, he’s been a really good player for Manchester United. It’s time for him to leave the club, but will there be players on the lad’s wages and things like that, who knows.
“I just think parting ways at some stage is inevitable and I think the sooner it comes for Manchester United and Rashford, the better.
