A man was arrested in Azusa, a city east of Pasadena where one of Los Angeles’ largest wildfires is raging, Friday … and police say he may have tried to start another fire.
Azusa PD tells TMZ … officers were dispatched to a local park just before midnight for a brush fire where they claim a witness told them the man who started the fire was still on the scene.
Officers located the suspect, identified as “Transient.” Jose Carranza-Escobar – who they say confessed to setting the fire.Carransa-Escobar was then arrested by police.
Los Angeles County firefighters arrived and extinguished the blaze, and several other state agencies are now assessing the extent of the fire’s damage.
The police have a “zero tolerance policy” for such incidents…so it looks like they’re planning to come down on people who are allegedly setting fires in the area.
In fact, the Los Angeles County District Attorney has already assigned a prosecutor from the arson unit to the case … and police tell us evidence will be presented as early as Monday for possible charges.
Azusa is located approximately 16 miles east of Altadena … The town destroyed by the Eaton fire. A large fire in northeast Los Angeles that has burned more than 14,000 acres is the second largest to break out in Los Angeles this week. about 10,000 acres smaller than the Pacific Palisades wildfire in West Los Angeles.
