Los Angeles is in need of massive rebuilding after devastating wildfires wiped entire neighborhoods off the map, and the local architect John Kordick says the city can rebuild in a few years as long as city officials sit.
John joined us Monday on “TMZ Live” and we asked him the question on many people’s minds… how long will it take for Los Angeles to rebuild?
With more than 12,000 buildings burned in the Palisades and Eaton fires, it’s a monumental task that will require a Herculean effort… but John says architects and engineers are ready to get to work as soon as possible… and he thinks 2 to 3 years is the best case.
The problem… John says building permits that used to take weeks to obtain can now take years… and that process needs to be streamlined if Los Angeles wants to avoid a long redevelopment.
John says it often takes longer to get permits in Los Angeles than it does to actually build the house… and he explains how a bunch of government agencies are screwing up the process, especially for people in Malibu and the Palisades who need to rebuild along the shore.
The good news… John says we can simplify getting permits again without rewriting a bunch of code or creating a new committee… and he gives us a quick fix.
And in some lucky times, the governor of California. Gavin Newsom announced an executive order this weekend … he waives some environmental requirements for building permits for businesses and homeowners to speed up redevelopment, and he promised to look for more ways to get things done faster, the executive order also protects home owners from rising prices.
John says builders are ready to make Los Angeles rise from the ashes…if the city adapts.
