Court records we obtained show that Sandra Vander Esch filed for divorce from Darwin Vander Esch on December 2nd … just one day after that accused him of trying to strangle her in an incident at their home in Idaho.
In the alleged Dec. 1 altercation, according to court documents, Sandra claimed Darwin wrapped his arms around her neck after an argument at a nearby bar … and “pushed and squeezed her, preventing her from speaking or breathing.”
“It took approximately 10 to 15 seconds before Sandy was available to cut Darwin’s hands from around his neck,” the documents state.
Darwin was was arrested on the charges, though he vehemently denied laying hands on the woman.He has since been charged with one count of strangulation and two other misdemeanors.
Darwin has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges, but a felony plea has yet to be determined.
We have reached out to attorneys representing both Darwin and Sandra for comment, but have not yet heard back.
Meanwhile, Layton, who starred for the Cowboys for six seasons before retiring earlier this year, has yet to comment publicly on the matter.
