Arsenal striker Leandro Trossard has admitted his side need to be perfect to win the Premier League title this season.
The Gunners are currently four points behind league leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand. Last time out, Arsenal bounced back against Brighton where they drew 1-1 and beat their north London rivals Tottenham 2-0.
First-placed Liverpool are also yet to win the league after back-to-back draws against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest since the start of the year. However, Trossard believes the league’s increasing competitiveness means Arsenal ” must remain at its best to continue competing.
“You have to be perfect every season,” Trossard said Sky Sports.
“It’s been such a tight race for the last four or five seasons. Everyone’s competing, it’s not just the teams at the top of the table, everyone’s getting better every season, so it’s getting more competitive.
“You’ve got to be on your (A) game every game. It’s tough, but we just have to keep believing and being ourselves so we can achieve something.”
Arsenal’s push for the title this season has not been helped by an ever-growing injury list in forward areas.
It was confirmed this week that Gabriel Jesus suffered an ACL injury and will be out for Bucayo Saka.Despite the absences on offense, Trossard says he is ready to fill in when called upon.
“Injuries are a big blow for us. We know what Bucayo (Sakan) has done for the club, and Gabriel Jesus has been unlucky. Hopefully we can be ready in the meantime let’s be
“Because of the injuries, we had to turn some things around so that everybody gets their opportunities. Of course, I’m always happy (to fill in at first). I’m always ready to play in any position on the field.”
Arsenal retain the threat of shots and are alone as the most effective corner takers. Their prowess at taking corners has led to some criticism from observers that the Gunners are overly reliant on set pieces. For Trossard, Arsenal are more than that. rather than just episodes.
“It’s a part of our game that we’re really good at,” he said Sky Sports.
“We want to be the best at everything, and that includes betting. We’ve been consistent over the last few years, and you can tell the games here. That’s a big part of our game, but it’s not the only part.
“We can also score from open play. I don’t think there was an over-dependence on the corners. The outside view will be like that, because we scored a lot of goals, but it’s not in our mind that we can only. the score from the set pieces It is just an additional tool for us to win the game.
“I think everyone in the league would like that. We’re really happy with that, obviously we can score more goals, but at the end of the day you have to be happy when you win the Premier League.”
