When Kyogo Furuhashi joined Celtic in 2021, few would have recognized the name.
His manager at the time, Ange Postecoglou, said the Japanese international would “add something special” to the team. He wasn’t wrong.
Four years later, Kyoghue leaves as a fans’ favourite. He is Scotland’s top scorer since moving to the league. He has also won eight major honors in three and a half seasons.
The 30-year-old has indeed signed a new four-year deal with the club in 2023, with manager Brendan Rodgers describing him as an “exciting” and “important” player. That new deal comes a day after Jota left the club for Saudi Arabia, but could he instead return to the club from Rennes and fill the void left by Kyogho?
Will Kyogo miss?
The simple answer is yes. He scores goals, stretches the defense to create space for teammates to score, and keeps the ball clean.
He scored 85 goals and added 19 assists in all competitions, but those numbers are much more.

A total of 56 of those goals came in the league, a tally unmatched by any other player in the Scottish Premiership during that period.Incredibly, the striker, who is just 5ft 5in tall, scored 12 headers. that too in the best championship of his time in Glasgow.
He topped the league charts for shots and quick breaks, and more than 17 percent of Celtic’s goals since the summer of 2021 have come through a forward. Matt O’Reilly and Deisen Maida were second on that list with 10 percent. further back.
How do Celtic replace him?
The simple answer might be the name Celtic fans are familiar with, Jota.
He left Celtic. £25m move to Saudi Arabia Professional League side Al Ittihad in 2023but things never really worked out for the 25-year-old, with off-field issues leading to the Portuguese leaving to join Rennes after a year.
However, that didn’t go to plan either, with Jota making just nine appearances in the French league and now the clubs are in talks to see the player move in the opposite direction to Chiogo.
He scored 15 goals and assisted 12 in his last season at Celtic as they won a domestic treble. He loves the club and the fans love him. Although he can’t be an immediate replacement for Chiogo, Rodgers is has no shortage of options in the center with Adam Ida back at the club and Daisen Maeda could also fill that role.
Plus, there’s no doubt that fans would love to see Jota on the wing again at Celtic Park.
