John Mayer officially bought Jim Henson of the studio … and he seems to have a clear vision of what he wants the studio to look like in the future … TMZ has learned.
Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ … Mayer and producer/director McG have finalized their deal to buy the iconic Jim Henson Studio Despite previous reports claiming the deal was in place $60 million rangeOur sources say it closed for around $45 million.
We’re told Mayer will oversee the recording studio and McGee will manage the other facilities on the lot.
Over the years, Henson’s recording studio has been home to some of music’s greatest creations, including Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Ozzy OsbourneThe Supremes and more We Are The World was also recorded here.
We’re told a name change is in the offing for the studio… although the exact name has yet to be decided.
However, the renaming of Jim Henson Studios may be the biggest change coming under the new ownership.We’re told Mayer and McG plan to keep the studio unchanged, including the same staff.
We’re told preserving the building’s history means everything to the duo, as does making sure it remains the West Coast’s premier recording studio for many years to come.
As we reported, Mayer and McGee were under contract last month to acquire the historic Hollywood property.Mayer already has a connection to the property, having offices in the building.
