I’m never without homemade herbes de Provence in our kitchen. Most abundant in the south of France This spice mix It really speaks to my love of French cooking. I use everything I can!

My mother’s French heritage was a big influence growing up and because of her I’ve always had a soft spot for French dishes like boeuf bourguignon and paté. I’m no Julia Child (or Martha Stewart for that matter!). Our meal plan as much as possible.

Many people think that French cooking is difficult or complicated, but it doesn’t have to be.

French cure for picky eaters

The blend comes from the south or the Provence region of France, and is made from herbs that grow naturally in the area. Many Medicinal Herbs in grocery stores include lavender and other herbs.

Herbs de Provence how to make

It’s super easy, but requires an extra step compared to many of my spice mix recipes. I usually just add all the herbs to the pot, shake and voila… done. These herbs are usually whole like fennel seeds or lavender buds, so I do a quick run through the food processor first. Not only are they easier to use in recipes, but freshly ground herbs are more aromatic and flavorful. Blending or chopping herbs releases more of their volatile oils, giving them a fresher flavor.

So what is herbes de Provence anyway, apart from being fancy? The answer is many!

How to use this homemade seasoning

Herbes de Provence is very versatile. It can be described as bold, woody and slightly floral. It pairs well with any cut of meat (especially pork and chicken recipes) and is very complementary. Fish and seafood. I often add it to homemade soups and sauces.

We like to mix in some grass-fed butter ahead of time and keep vegetables, sourdough bread, or cauliflower rice ready to go. It also makes a great addition to my favorite breakfast dishes Sous vide egg bites Or Homemade breakfast sausage.

Try adding Provence blend butter to roasted chicken before putting it in the oven. The herbs work best when added to the beginning of the recipe because they are finely chopped and not too powdered. This gives them a chance to infuse their flavor into the dish. Equally delicious on roasted vegetables or potatoes.

Bonus… not only is it healthy and tastes great, but it also fills the kitchen with a wonderful aroma!
