Two of California’s top politicians are at the crossroads of recall petitions … but while one is picking up steam, the other is struggling from the starting blocks.
After the devastating wildfires that burned vast areas of California, two petitions have been launched, demanding the removal of the mayor of Los Angeles. Karen Bass and the governor of California Gavin Newsom.
The petition to recall Gov. Newsom is newer than Nix Bassi … and frankly, it’s having a hard time getting any serious attention.
That might sound like a lot… but to trigger a recall vote, the equivalent of 12% of voters in the last gubernatorial election would need to sign, so the petition would need to get over 1 million votes to trigger a recall.
Given that Newsom has already survived a recall election in 2021, that seems unlikely … even as many criticize his leadership while the fires take their toll.
Bass, on the other hand, may be in trouble… “To force a recall vote for his office, 10% of registered voters in the city of Los Angeles would have to sign on, or roughly 200,000 people. So far, 108,000 people have signed on.”
So it looks like the petitions are halfway through the recall criteria, although we can’t verify if every signer actually lives within the city limits…but, not surprisingly, given all the blame the public is throwing Bass’ way.
Los Angeles Fire Chief Christine Crowley He called out the Bass administration for not properly funding the Bass Fire Department matted Crowley’s comments at the press conference … saying they’ll talk separately down the road.
A lot of people are disappointed with Bass’s response to the wildfires … including stars like this Khloe Kardashian who straight-up Bass called it a “joke”.

Other celebrities like it Yvette Nicole Brown and: Kim Wheatley are stands next to the mayor …suggesting the race may spur some criticism.
The Los Angeles wildfires have so far burned more than 40,000 acres and killed at least 16 people … and they could end up costing Mayor Bass his job.
