Brazil and Real Madrid striker Vinicius Jr was named FIFA Men’s Player of the Year in Doha on Tuesday, while Spain and Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati won the women’s award for the second consecutive year.
Vinicius scored 24 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions to help Real Madrid win the La Liga and Champions League double, and scored in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund.
The Brazilian won the award ahead of Spain and Manchester City midfielder Rodri and his Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham.
The 24-year-old, who narrowly missed out on Rodri’s Ballon d’Or award in October, was in Doha to receive the award as Real Madrid take on Mexico’s Pachuca in Wednesday’s FIFA Intercontinental Cup final in Qatar.
“It seemed impossible when I was playing barefoot in the streets of San Goncalo, and now I’m here,” said Vinicius.
Bonmati retained the FIFA Women’s Player of the Year award ahead of Zambia’s Barbra Banda and Norway’s Caroline Graham Hansen, who also won the women’s Ballon d’Or for the second consecutive year in October.
The 26-year-old helped his club to a domestic treble last season as Barca also retained the Champions League, while Bonmati scored in the semi-finals and final as Spain won the Nations League in February.
“I am very grateful for this award, but I always say that this is a team effort, with Barca, which has won everything and the national team,” said Bonmati.
Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti won the men’s manager of the year award after leading his club to a league and Champions League double last season.
“I want to share with this club, my president and my players, the best club in the world,” Ancelotti said.
Emma Hayes won the Women’s Coach of the Year award after leading the USA to gold at this year’s Olympics, leading Chelsea to the WSL title last season, her fifth straight league win with the club.

The award for the best women’s goalkeeper went to an American Alyssa Naher of the Chicago Red Stars, meanwhile Emiliano Martinez Argentina and Aston Villa won the men’s award.
