President Joe Biden declared Jan. 9 a National Day of Mourning for former President Jimmy Carter, who died Sunday at age 100. The Day of Mourning coincides with Carter’s state funeral at Washington National Cathedral on that date.
Biden is expected to deliver a eulogy at the funeral.
Here’s a schedule of events in Washington, Atlanta and Carter’s hometown of Plains, Georgia:

January 4, Saturday
The state funeral begins with the Carter family arriving at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus. At 10:15 a.m. ET, former Secret Service and current special agents of the Carter Protective Division will carry Carter’s remains into the hearse and walk beside him as the hearse leaves the hospital.
The motorhome will travel from the Plains to his childhood home for a brief pause in front of his family farm at 10:50 a.m. During the stop, the National Park Service will salute the late president and ring the historic farm bell 39 times.

The late President will officially begin his final journey to Atlanta at 10:55. As the motorcade gets there, it will stop at the Georgia State Capitol for a moment of silence led by Governor Brian Kemp, Governor Burt Jones, Mayor. Atlanta Andre Dickens, members of the Georgia Legislature and Georgia State Patrol troopers at 3 p.m
Carter’s remains will arrive at the Carter Presidential Center for a ceremony at 3:45 p.m. and a service at 4 p.m.

After the service, there will be a repose for mourners to come and pay their respects on Tuesday, January 7th from 7:00pm to 6:00am.
The late president will rest until 6 am on Tuesday, January 7. Citizens are invited to pay their respects during this time.
January 7, Tuesday
Carter leaves the Carter Center after a 9:30 a.m. ceremony
The late president and his family will then depart for Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Georgia at 10:00 a.m., where they will board special Air Mission 39 to Washington at 10:40 a.m.
Special Air Mission 39 arrives at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, at 12:45 p.m., where Carter’s remains are carried into the car with a ceremony.
Carter and his family travel to the US at 1:15 p.m the army Memorial, where his remains will be carried in a horse-drawn hearse for the funeral procession to the U.S. Capitol at 2 p.m.

Upon arrival at the Capitol, the late president is escorted by military officials to the Rotunda, where members of Congress will pay their respects at a service at 3:00 p.m.
Carter will remain in state while the military maintains an honor guard. The public is invited to pay their respects at the statue from 7pm to midnight.
January 8, Wednesday
The late president remains in the Capitol. The public is invited to pay their respects on Thursday, January 9, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

January 9, Thursday
Carter leaves the Capitol with the ceremony at 9 am
The run will proceed to Washington Cathedral for a brief ceremony arriving at 9:30 a.m., followed by a National Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m.
Following the service, Carter and his family will travel to Joint Base Andrews at 11:15 a.m. to board Air Mission 39 at 11:45 a.m. for the final flight home to Georgia.
Special Air Mission 39 will arrive at Lawson Army Airfield in Fort Moore, Ga., at 2:00 p.m., where Carter’s remains will be carried into the car along with the ceremony.
Carter and his family will travel by motorcade to Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, arriving at 3:30 p.m., where a private funeral service will be held at 3:45 p.m.

Following the funeral service, the late president and his family will proceed to the Carter residence at 4:45 p.m. for a private burial at 5:20 p.m.
The public is invited to join the carriage ride as Carter and his family travel across the Plains to the late president’s final resting place. Before the burial, the U.S. Navy will hold a Missing Men’s Formation to honor Carter’s naval service and time as commander-in-chief shortly after the float arrives at headquarters.
