ESPN:
The Ohio State Buckeyes blew the Tennessee Volunteers off the field Saturday night in the College Football Playoff … and one ESPN commentator had an interesting take on the play.
ESPN offered an alternate telecast of the playoff game, hosted on ESPN 2, starring the cast of “The Pat McAfee Show.” McAfee and his crew are best known for “The Worldwide Leader.” are one of the shows known for their humorous take on sports topics and sometimes controversial commentary.
Well, the latter was on full display in the second quarter when McAfee turned to one of his head honchos, Boston Connorto see how the Tennessee fans reacted after the 21-0 loss.
Connor was patrolling Tennessee … and went on to say that the Ohio State super fan known as “The Big Nut” “smashed his nut” in the faces of Volunteers fans.
Someone on the show was clearly taken aback by the irony, because you can hear them say, “Hey yo!”
McAfee retracted the offensive comment, adding: “Yeah, every time a nut goes wild, things get crazy.”
Some viewers were shocked by the remark, naturally going to X to vent their anger.
One commenter said: “This is family time and we need to bring back the professionalism because this is what it is,” said another. “Pat only speaks to the lowest common denominator, and if you don’t understand what that means, I’m probably talking about you. It’s a shame ESPN put him in that demographic, as silly as it is.” be reckless.
McAfee and his team are clearly a big part of ESPN’s programming … and whether you like them or not, it doesn’t look like they’re going away anytime soon.
