England captain Heather Knight has been cleared to play after picking up an injury in the Women’s T20 World Cup defeat to West Indies that saw them crash out of the group stage.
Knight was forced to withdraw when England suffered a six-wicket loss and was ruled out with calf pain forcing him out of the crease.
She has since revealed that she has ruptured a tendon but will travel to Australia to link up with Sydney Thunder of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) after being assessed by England’s medical team.
With his “pain and function significantly improved over the last few days”, he will continue his return to play under the guidance of the Sydney Thunder and England medical teams.
In a post on social media on Monday, Knight said: “Tough way to end our tournament. Still gutted, but we will learn and grow from this experience. We will be back.
“Thanks for those asking about my injury, I’m doing well, thank you. Turns out I tore the longest tendon in the body, the plantaris tendon/muscle.
“It’s not bad news, it’s basically a useless muscle, but very sore at the time. Not the best time. It won’t keep me long and I’m looking forward to the Sydney Thunder later this week.
“Congratulations to Sophie Devine and the White Ferns, well deserved. Sport sometimes throws up remarkable stories, congratulations girls.
“Thanks for all the support as always.”
