
There may be more moon-born asteroids near Earth than thought

A giant rock orbiting near Earth appears to have originated from the moon, the second known object, with perhaps a dozen more awaiting discovery.
The asteroid, called 2024 PT5, is about 10 meters across. It was observed in August, then bound by Earth’s gravitational pull. becoming the second moon of our planet, the so-called mini-moon, between September and November.
