To twist the classic phrase of a comedy legend who came from a town where Port Vale won their last game, Darren Moore wins all the right awards, just not necessarily in order.
Two Sky Bet League Manager of the Month awards have gone the way of the Vale boss back-to-back.
Six years ago he picked up the same gong, but in the Premier League.
“I’m probably unique as a manager,” Moore says Sky Sportsa familiar warm smile spread across his face. “I’ve played in all four divisions, now I’m successful in all four.
“There are different challenges and obstacles here in League 2, but I find them really exciting in terms of the challenges they present.
“There are some parts that are new at this level. Some parts that I’ve never been in. But at the end of the day, it’s the same result, to try and get a result and take the club in the right direction.”
It undoubtedly does. Moore may not have been able to help the club’s relegation last season since he arrived in February.
But he made the fastest turnarounds. After 16 games of the season, Val leads the league 2.
For Moore, after a disappointing finish at Sheffield Wednesday and a disappointing performance at Huddersfield, Vale Park has been the perfect rebuilding ground.
“It was really simple,” he says of his decision to join the club was in my vision.
“It was always going to take a while but there have been a lot of changes behind the scenes at the club since I’ve been here.
“We had to regroup really, really quickly. It’s never easy to turn that stage around quickly and get back in the promotion hunt.”
Despite an impressive run of form that has seen them lose just one of their last 12 games, Moore is refusing to get carried away, insisting it is too early to talk about promotion.
“I’d be a fool to actually say where we might go,” he says.
“But what I can say is that with the right mindset, mentality, desire and determination, this club can go as far as many other similar clubs have gone.
“But we have to be consistent and put in a huge amount of work every day to give ourselves a chance.
“Of course there is a chance. But we will say it together with the other 23 clubs in the league. We are no different from anyone else.
“We are on our own journey and our own path. There will be bumps in the road and we must work to overcome them.”
One thing is for sure, with Moore at the helm, Port Vale are certainly back on track.
